George Gordon Residential School Committee
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
The Volunteer Working Committee will work closely with the community members of George Gordon, survivors of residential school, descendants and Chief and Council, to achieve the task of creating and implementing a concise plan to oversee the activities and responsibilities required to locate, identify and to protect the existing burial sites of former residential school attendees of George Gordon Residential School.
The committee work will consist of but not limited to’
- Gathering oral history and stories;
- Gathering Research and Archival documents;
- Completing Grants & Proposals;
- Working with outside organizations to conduct needed work and support;
- Ensuring voices of survivors are heard and honoured;
- Ensures the planning process is inclusive, open and cooperative;
- Provides direction and advice on recommendations to Chief & Council;
- Ongoing communication;
- Reports and regular updates to the Leadership;
COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP: It is essential that we keep the committee to a manageable size to ensure we can complete our work in an efficient and effective way. Therefore, membership must be representative of our stakeholders and proposed to be up to six (6) members and limited to eight (8).
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and listening skills;
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills;
- Broad understanding of needs and expectations of various stakeholder groups (i.e. stakeholders include: students, researchers, funders, community stakeholders, government stakeholders, etc.);
- Awareness and understanding about the residential school and its operation;
- Willingness to work hard and complete identified tasks;
TIME COMMITMENT:
Time commitment will vary over the length of the project, initially meetings will take place once a week and spread out as the work unfolds. Expect a time commitment of at least eight hours per month to attend meetings, review documents, respond to emails and complete assigned tasks.
